PhDs in Dementia

The DSIDC's Living with Dementia Programme, funded by Atlantic Philanthropies, has been very proactive in raising public and professional awareness about dementia.  The programme has graduated six Masters students and two PhD students.

National Survey of Nursing Homes

A new national survey of 603 Irish nursing homes has been launched by the DSIDC in co-operation with Nursing Homes Ireland.  The aim of this survey is to ascertain what proportion of nursing homes around the country have dementia specific units and where in the country these specialist units are located.

HIQA Seminar

On November 4th the DSIDC hosted a one day seminar for HIQA inspectors from accros the country.  The event was jointly planned by DSIDC and HIQA staff.  Topics were carefully selected to be of practical relevance to HIQA inspectors and included environmental design, connecting with the person with dementia, new prevalence figures on dementia, quality of life, medication and the challenge of poly-pharmacy in nursing homes.
