An extensive literature review undertaken by Kogan and colleagues identified 15 definitions of person centred care which addressed 17 values of person centred care (Fazio et al., 2018). From this they divided their results into six categories-
(Kogan, Wilber, & Mosqueda, 2016).
These ‘categories’ are in contrast to the medical model which was prevalent in dementia care prior to the entry of person centred care. People with dementia were now being recognised as more than just a person with a disease with no cure- they had needs, they could choose and should be offered choice and they want to exist in relationships in a social world.
