<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We are excited to announce&nbsp;that we will be holding our&nbsp;<strong>Rethinking Intimacy and Relationships in Dementia Symposium</strong>&nbsp;on&nbsp;<strong>Wednesday 20th May</strong>, from&nbsp;<strong>09:00 – 15:00</strong>, in the&nbsp;<strong>Guinness Enterprise Centre</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Our relationship with&nbsp;<strong>sex and intimacy</strong>&nbsp;changes as we age. Even as our physical and mental capabilities&nbsp;may be in decline, our&nbsp;<strong>need for intimacy,&nbsp;</strong>in whatever form, often continues to burn brightly.&nbsp; However, individually and as a society, there is often an&nbsp;<strong>ambivalence towards intimacy between adults with dementia</strong>, with much pearl-clutching and hand-wringing&nbsp;resulting.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What is increasingly apparent, though, is that&nbsp;<strong>consenting sex, intimacy, and relationships</strong>&nbsp;are a&nbsp;<strong>vital part of healthy ageing</strong>&nbsp;and should be&nbsp;<strong>facilitated where possible</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Come and join us</strong>&nbsp;and our&nbsp;<strong>expert speakers</strong>&nbsp;on&nbsp;<strong>20th May</strong>&nbsp;to help shine a light on this important topic.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is a&nbsp;<strong>free event</strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>all are welcome</strong>.<br>To&nbsp;<strong>book your ticket</strong>, please follow the link below:<br><a href="https://dementiaandintimacy.eventbrite.ie/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">https://dementiaandintimacy.eventbrite.ie</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The&nbsp;InspireD&nbsp;app enables people living with dementia&nbsp;and their&nbsp;carers to create a digital memory book that stores personal photographs, sounds and videos.&nbsp;&nbsp;Users can then peruse these and in doing so, share memories about past experiences and important life events.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Users can also add typed or voice notes about photographs, sounds and film clips so that family, friends and carers understand why a particular memory is special.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The InspireD app has been rigorously tested and is freely available on the HSC Apps4Dementia library (<a href="https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fapps4dementia.orcha.co.uk%2F&amp;data=04%7C01%7Cd.mcconnell%40ulster.ac.uk%7Cb1c999ba308d41ba040808d908f1f29d%7C6f0b94874fa842a8aeb4bf2e2c22d4e8%7C0%7C0%7C637550657517550390%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&amp;sdata=T5y2X%2FpNaU4tIKgXf26P2DwVTpub3jrXidFHGmAH6E0%3D&amp;reserved=0" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">https://apps4dementia.orcha.co.uk</a>).&nbsp; The app is also free to download from the&nbsp;Apple App Store&nbsp;and&nbsp;Google Play store&nbsp;and will work on Apple and Android devices.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Although designed primarily for people living with dementia and their carers, the app can be used by other family members&nbsp;and&nbsp;health or social care staff across a range of care settings who are interested in reminiscence. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The development of the InspireD app builds on previous research by Ulster University&nbsp;which showed that &nbsp;reminiscence improved mood, wellbeing, quality of life and relationships for people living with dementia.&nbsp;&nbsp; More information about the app is available at&nbsp;<a href="https://ddec1-0-en-ctp.trendmicro.com/wis/clicktime/v1/query?url=https%3a%2f%2feur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com%2f%3furl%3dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.theinspiredapp.com%252F%26data%3d04%257C01%257Cd.mcconnell%2540ulster.ac.uk%257Cb1c999ba308d41ba040808d908f1f29d%257C6f0b94874fa842a8aeb4bf2e2c22d4e8%257C0%257C0%257C637550657517550390%257CUnknown%257CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%253D%257C1000%26sdata%3d10O8fEGty1oTzMALAmt8pnd7Z%252BaGosUBtYjTNZgsYPQ%253D%26reserved%3d0&amp;umid=6cc8d142-c22f-4b94-b0d0-b5d1603b3160&amp;auth=79a182f17a61d2ad61a86c6ae2351ca92b1d6b54-7d834ed9f7ea7da5a2d9c2d4e51142bacaa8c3eb" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">www.theinspiredapp.com</a>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;</p>
